TOWN HALL CONCERT
Second of Sunday Series
Items -ny the Institute Silver Band and solos on the grand organ by Mr. Gunnar Paulsen were the foundation ot a highly popular concert at the Wellington Town Hall last night. The concert was the second of the series of Sunday night concerts held under the auspices of the city council, and it attracted an even larger audience than the first. A great deal was crowded into the hour and a quarter’s programme, the items being presented without intermission. A considerable improvement has been made in the lighting of the hall over what was possible at the first concert, although further efforts in that direction would be amply repaid. The band played artistically a number of favourite pieces, including “Two Little Finches,” in which Bandmaster J. King and Bandsman V. Jacobs played the cornet duet. Mr. Paulsen, who made hie first appearance in Wellington at the concert, comes from the State Theatre in Auckland. The popular items which he played were just to the taste of the audience, and even after he had completed his bracket of six pieces on the programme, including “On the Road to Mandalay,” “At Dawning,” “Souvenir, “Liebstraume,” and “Because,” his audience requested an encore. Ron Wakelin amused with antics at the piano, and his comical miming in a recitation. Misses Gracie McKay and Jean O’Connor performed a double sword dance with Mr. A. Barclay as piper, and Messrs. Ron Cowie and Norman Grenfell sang “We’ll Run Them In,” garbed as burlesque policemen. Mitw Alma Cowie (mezzo-soprano), who sang' “Trees,” and Mr. B. Hickford (baritone), who sang “Pass, Everyman,” were valuable additions to the artists who appeared during the evening. Mrs. Audrey Gibson Foster played the accompaniments. ’
