OBITUARY

Mr. Francis Ford The death occurred on Sunday morning of Mr. Francis Ford, of 14 Bolton Street, who was well known in Wellington engineering circles. Mr. Ford was born at Staffordshire, England, and arrived in Wellington 50 years ago. He leaves a widow, four daughters and two sons—Lady Hunter (Wellington). Mrs. M. Cox (Adelaide), Mrs. J. JGriffiths (Suva), Mrs. J. Cable (Wellington), Mr. John Ford (Wellington) and Captain F. Ford (Dargaville). Mr. Alfred Grenfell By the recent death of Mr. A. F. (“Dick”) Grenfell at the age of 68, Invercargill has lost a popular citizen and a talented amateur actor. Mr. Grenfell was boru and educated in Oamaru and began his career as a school teacher in that town. He taught in the Invercargill Middle School, the Gore School and the Invercargill South School, where he was first. assistant at the time of his retirement in 192 b. He served in the Boer War and in tne Great War, when he was ranked as quartermaster-captain. He was a Southland representative Rugby footballer in 1892, 1893, 1895 and 1897, and an enthusiastic climber, being a friend and frequent companion of Grave and Talbot the explorers of the Sounds country “Dick” devoted much of his time, especially after his retirement, to the amateur stage. An excellent character actor, lie was also an efficient and painstaking coach. His last appearance was in the Southland film, ‘‘The Wagon and the Star,” soon to be screened throughout New Zealand
