Australian Athletes at Berlin
London, July 22. The representative of the Australian Associated Press agency at Berlin reports that though a number of German regulations have been relaxed for the Olympic Games period, the leniency docs not extend to the scrutiny of letters. Much of the Australians’ mail has arrived marked "Opened by the Government superintendent.”
FRENCH BILL SHELVED
Expenses of Gaines Team Paris, July 22. As the result of frantic negotiations between the Sports Federation and the Under-Secretary for Physical Education. necessitated by the Chamber of Deputies shelving in favour of more important business the Bill for the appropriation of £1333 for sending athletes to the Olympic Games, one-third of the amount has been obtained from the Foreign Ministry. A sportsman wi'i contribute the balance. The team will leave for Berlin on July 29.
Though the French athletes have been promised financial assistance by. _ the Government, they will not be officially representing their country.
