Small Rise in Sterling Exchange CHANGES IN LIABILITIES The weekly statement of assets and liabilities of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand as at the close of business on Monday, July 20, is as follows:—

Proportion of reserve (No. 7 less No. 5) to notes and other demand liabilities, 96.484 per cent., the same as on July 13. The note issue amounts to £10.065,760. a decrease of £50,311. Demand liabilities to the 4 State have, decreased by £80,331. the total being £8,876,092. The trading banks’ reserve balances show a sharp increase of £195.106, the amount being £6,792,636. Other demand liabilities total £102,608, a decrease of £60,056. Other liabilities, at £92,497. show an increase of £3192. On the assets side, sterling exchange at £22,127,157, shows an increase of £4450. Gold, is unchanged at £2.801,733. Subsidiary coin totals £191,675, a decrease of. £7327. Investments at £2,035,319 show no change. Other assets have increased by £10,476 (lie amount now being 273.709. The statement balances at £27,429,594, an increase of £7599.
