Licence Fees and Levies

Licence fees for the growing of tobacco in New Zealand are announced in the current Gazette. An Order-in-Council provides that a licence or warrant for the growing of tobacco shall be 3/6, with a similar price for the selling of raw tobacco. For a warrant to purchase raw tobacco, however, there shall be paid 1/- for every 10001 b., or part of 10001 b., of tobacco authorised by the warrant. The issue of a warrant to sell raw tobacco shall be subject to the payment of a levy of Jd. per lb., which is to be collected by the purchaser on behalf of the Tobacco Board. A similar levy is imposed on the purchaser of raw tobacco It is provided that each member of the Tobacco Board may be paid a fee of £2/2/- for every day, or part of a day, in which he is occupied at a board meeting. Board members may also be paid locomotion expenses.
