Cheap Ammunition For Killers PRICES FOR SKINS FIXED An announcement is made in this week’s Gazette that there is no protection on deer in nqy part of New Zealand; The animals may be destroyed at any time, but it is, of course,,necessary to have the consent either of the owner or controlling authority to go bn the land.
It is explained that deer-skins are marketable, and that where private persons experience any difficulty in disposing of such skins the Department of Internal Affairs will accept and pay for skins coming up to requirements. Chamois skins are accepted under the same conditions.
The price for deer skins accepted as first grade will be 1/7 per lb, dry weight Where skips do not come up to first grade requirements they will, where considered by the department's inspector to lie marketable, he accepted at a lower rate, or the sking may be ntjrply rejected. Tbe inspector’s decision will be final, and it must lie understood that skins are submitted on thia understanding and that any skins absolutely rejected will be destroyed. f
Directions are given in the Gazette as to the skinning, curing and packing of deer skins. A note is added to the effect that the Department of Internal Affairs, with q'view to assisting persons. desirous of shooting deer, will Supply ammunition at JO/6 per 100 rounds, freight to be paid by the pur--chaser. -
