A PLAY READING

The reading of the play “Sweeny Todd,” written by George Dibden Pitt in 1842, was given at the University Women’s Club by Mrs. Suckling aud her party. This best-known play of Pitt’s, which is famous as the forerunner of the present-day “crimeplay,” had all the material for a whole-hearted melodrama, and the readers did full justice to IL Mrs. Suckling showed perception both hi her choice of play and in the allocation of the respective parts. The readers were highly complimented on their performance. Those taking part with Mrs. 1 Suckling were: Misses England, Gibson, Aitken, E. and E. Suckling, Messrs. Alexander, Saunders, Hutton, Risks and Heighway.
