Changeable and squally; improvement coming shortly. Following is the weather report and forecast issued by . the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. to-day A rather intense anti-cyclone covers the north Tasman Sea and extends across southern New Zealand. A depression is still located east of the North Island, but is passing slowly away. Light and variable winds south of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, with northerlies predominating; elsewhere moderate to strong southerly winds, still reaching gale force at places, but decreasing gradually. Seas rather rough in New Zealand waters north of East Cape, and rough to high but decreasing to-morrow elsewhere north of I’arewell Spit and Ixaikouia, slight to moderate thence southward. Fresh but decreasing south-west winds, with a considerable swell, in the northern portion of the eastern Tasman Sea; moderate westerlies and moderate seas in the southern portion. Weather still changeable and squally in the North Island and the north-east portion of the South Island, with passing showers, but improving shortly; elsewhere fair to tine. Temperatures cold, with sharp inland frosts. YESTERDAY’S WEATHER. Wellington.—Cold and cloudy, with occasional showers; strong, squally southerly wind. Minimum temperature on Monday night, 40.3dcg.; maximum temperature yesterday, 46,5 deg.; temperature at 3 p.m. yesterday, 45.5 deg. Rainfall at “The Dominion” building for 24 hours ended midnight, .81in. Total for month, 3.41 in.; for year, 30.82 in. Palmerston North.— Overcast and very cold; strong south-easterly wind. Masterton. — Overcast, with continual rain showers; light south-westerly breeze. Wanganui.— -Heavily overcast; intermittent showers; cold southerly wind. Waipukurau.— Heavy rain during the night was followed by a cold day with frequent heavy showers from the south. Auckland.— Continuation of boisterous westerly weather, frequent, showers being experienced during the night until midday when conditions improved, lhe barometer was steady all day at 30in. Clwistchurch.— Fine and sunny with very light winds. The maximum temperature was 48.2 deg., and the barometer was steady at 30.23 m. Dunedin. —A severe frost, and although the sun shone during the day, temperatures remained cold, the maximum being 48deg. and the minimum 29deg. lhe pressure was steady at about 30.25 in.
