LODGE MEETINGS

Independent Order of Oddfellows The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Rose of the Valley Lodge, Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows, was presided over by Bro. L. .Holmes, Noble Grand. There was a fair attendance and three new member,? were initiated into the lodge. Bro. Seddon reminded officers and members of the meeting of the juvenile lodge at which were expected visitors from the district. Bro. F. Westbury tendered his resignation as assistant secretary and Bro. Hollis was appointed tn his place, subject to confirmation at next summoned meeting. The draw for the inter-lodge indoor bowling tournament was received and the lodge adjourned to enable members to participate in a game of indoor bowls. Auxiliary Juvenile Lodge. About 50 juveniles and a number of visiting adults, including the Deputy District Grand Master, Bro. J. L. Stewart, and other officers of the district, and representatives from the juvenile lodges at Dannevirke and Palmerston North were present at the recent meeting of Loyal Rose of the Valley Auxiliary Juvenile Lodge. Sister Audrey Wilson preside'., with Sister Binns in the vice-president’s ehaii' and Sister Millman in the immediate past-president's chair. Three new members were initiated into the lodge, Sister Ella Rushton being the conductor. The president welcomed the Deputy District Grand Muster and bis officers, and gave details of the progress of the juvenile lodge S'iuce its commencement. Bro. Stewart congratulated the lodge on its success and the very capable manner in which the initiation ceremony had been carried out, also complimented rhe elective secretary, Bro. Ivan England, on the able manner in which be read the minutes and correspondence. Bro. Craddock ottered n prize for the winner® of the first ping-pong tournament. At the close of meeting the juveniles prevented an enjoyable programme of elocution, mouth-organ solos, songs, etc., and prizes were presented by the deputy to those obtaining first and second places in their clac’ses. A community sing and supper concluded a happy evening. Loyal Antipodean Lodge.

The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Antipodean Lodge, at which Bro. Hicks (noble grand) was presiding officer, was well attended. Advice was received of the first matches of the Manchester Unity Indoor Bowls Association. It was decided to play the Loyal Britannia Lodge on their next meeting night and Loyal Newtown in the following week. Bros. Craddock and Hicks were appointed selectors for the lodge teams. The lodge adjourned early to hold its annual smoke concert, at which numerous items were given by members and visiting artists. Among those present were Bro. A. C. Blair (grand master for the order in New Zealand), and Bro. Stewart (deputy district grand master), and some interesting facts regarding the order in New Zealand were revealed.
