DRASTIC DECREES Complaint to Mr. Lester a Criminal Offence By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Received July 20, 8.10 p.m.) London, July 18. The President of the Danzig Senate, Herr Greiser, has introduced drasticregulations to restrict individual freedom. They are considered tantamount to the abolition of the Constitution. He is expected to take action against opposition newspapers. One of the regulations is understood to be based on an order issued in 1933 granting extraordinary powers to the Nazi Senate which The Hague Court declared unconstitutional. Another decree restricts the freedom of opposition parties and extends the period during which a person may be kept in protective custody from three weeks to three months.

The League High Commissioner, Mr. Sean Lester, has departed on a fishing expedition, and is unable to take action against the regulations unless the Opposition complain of injustice.

The French paper, “I’lntransigent,” reports that when Mr. Lester sent his secretary to telegraph a protest to the League against Herr Greiser’s decree the clerk replied that the telegram would not please Herr Forster, the Nazi leader, and accordingly Mr. Lester was forced to motor across the frontier and send the cable from Gdynia.

The “Daily Telegraph’s” Danzig correspondent says that Herr Greiser’s coup is apparently a derisory gesture toward Poland and has caused renewed tension. It makes political complaint to Mr. Lester a criminal offence. Herr Forster declared: “Mr. Lester’s activities are making Danzig a cauldron of unrest and Bolshevism. Henceforth Nazis will carry out political pacification without Mr. Lester, who is inciting the opposition to the prejudice of peace in Eastern Europe.”
