Local Bodies’ Power of Remission The usual power for local bodies to remit the 10 per cent, penalty on rates under special circumstances will continue to be granted by the Government this year, according to an announcement made yesterday by the Minister of Finance, Hon. W. Nash. The Minister said that a clause in the Finance Bill, to be introduced in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, would provide that the penalty as usual could be remitted at the option of the local body concerned.
