16 PEOPLE KILLED AND MANY INJURED

New York Building Collapses (Received June 21, 7.30 p.m.) New York, June 20. One of the most serious construction accidents in recent years occurred today, when 16 people were killed and a score injured when a nearly-completed six-story apartment house at the Bronx collapsed. At least one workman is still reported missing and it is feared that he Is dead.

The collapse of the building apparently was caused by plumbers boring through a column for piping. The building was designed to house sixty families. The jumble of timbers, bricks and mortar was so deep that It required 24 hours’ frantic work to find the bodies, and the bottom of the pile has not yet been reached.
