NGAIO SCHOOL

Committee Trouble

Settled

Troubles which occurred in the election of the Ngaio School Committee were overcome at a meeting on Friday night between representatives of the Wellington Education Board, members of the new committee and members of the previous committee. A full committee is now in office. It consists of the following householders: —Messrs. F. P. Austin, G. Breeze, T. A. Gorton, F. G. Molesworth, G. C. Thomson, J. H. J. Turner, E. Turksma, Mesdames Rhodesia M. Abbott and Marjorie J. Wilson. The following members of the Education Board were present:—Messrs. W. V. Dyer (chairman), C. H. W. Nicholls, A. O Blake, L. J. McDonald-and J. J. Clark. The election of Mr. Molesworth and Airs. Abbott had been overruled by the board, on the grounds that Mr. Molesworth had not resided in the district sufficiently long and that Mrs. Abbott’s nomination had not been lodged before the specified time. The chief object of the board members in visiting the suburb was to discuss, the position of Mr. Turksma, it having been questioned whether his nomination also was in form. They decided that Mr. Turksma’s nomination was in form and that he should sit on the committee. That brought the number of the committee up to seven. They met and decided to coopt Mr. Molesworth, who has since qualified for membership, and Mrs.. Abbott. The result of all the events which have happened since the election at the meeting of householders on May 4 is that Mr. Turksma replaces Mr. T. Hills. Mr. Turksma was an unsuccessful candidate at the election, but took office automatically when the first committeeman was disqualified. Mr. Hills was disqualified on the ground that his nomination had not been signed.
