An Oystery Adventure

Mrs. Oyster sat crooning her small children to sleep. One by one sleepy eyelids drooped as their owners travelled the enchanted path to Dreamland. When all were sleeping soundly, Mrs. Oyster gathered together her best seaweed shawl and fan and went along to see how Mrs. Crayfish was faring. She hurried past Mr. Shark's mansion, hoping that he was not in, for he was fierce and ugly and gossip said that he was ou the look-out for a bride. Mrs. Oyster had been warned by her husband not to venture near Mr. Shark’s home, for she was comely and fair to look upon. As she did not see any sign of the monster about, she thought al] was safe and scurried on. No sooner had she passed his door that it opened and out swam the monster himself and immediately saw her.

"Ho, ho,” boomed he. “Ha, ha. what makes you tremble so, my dear?” Still Mrs. Oyster scuttled ou, trembling aud calling for help, but none was at hand. "I have caught you at last," gloated lie. "Ho, ho, come!” “No, no,” poor Mrs. Oyster cried. But he made a dash for the unfortunate Mrs. Oyster. At that moment a shadow descended, through the water and swung in front of Mr. Shark, right in his path. The monster snapped angrily at this object which dared to stand in his way of securing a bride.

But alack, alas, that "object” was a large hook! It sank unmercifully into Mr. Shark, and try as he would to free himself, all was in vain. Mrs. Oyster hurried thankfully home, while the shark was drawn up through the water on the end of a stout/line. The fishermen cheered loudly when they sighted their catch, for the shark had been a menace to the bathers for a long time. —Buster Boy (15). Wellington.
