FILM-STRUCK WIVES
MR. JUSTICE CHARLES, who is a bachelor, criticised film-struck wives in London' during the hearing of a King’s Bench action against a film director for the alleged enticement of a man’s wife.
Edward Charles Rickards, a bank clerk, said in evidence that his wife and daughter had been enticed by the director, Norman Lee, to appear in films. According to Rickards his wife was employed by Lee in crowd scenes. The judge commented: “If a woman .has a child, it’s her business to look after it and not go fooling about in 1 films.”
“QNE RAINY AFTERNOON” is the first offering for United Artists of Pickford-Lasky Productions, the new producing company headed by Mary Pickford and Jesse Lasky. Francis Lederer sings for the first time on the screen as the star of this sophisticated Parisian romantic comedy, and Ida Lupino, Hugh Herbert, Roland Young, Erik Rhodes and Joseph Cawthorn are seen in important featured roles.
PITA GILMAN, who is Mrs. Wallace Beery, represents her actor-hus-band in his business affairs. Recently Mrs. Beery was in London talking with producers there about a possible contract under which Wallace would make pictures in England.
