Census and Statistics Beat National Provident
Numerals being their speciality, the Census and Statistics Department Rugby representatives totted up a lengthy score when they met a National Provident Department team at Kelburn yesterday. The Statistics team won by 26 to t>. Very ragged Rugby in the first half gave place to improved team work in the second, when the Statistics backs began to find form. A. Teague and D. Nicks were prominent. The heavier pack allowed Statistics to keep the early phases in their opponents’ territory, and nt halt-, time the score was 9-nil in their favour. Hicks having secured two tries and G. Waring one. After the interval National Provident, making a rally, took the offensive for a while. Once, ' when Statistics broke through, Teague was able to score, but National Provident retaliated by a wellearned try, sebred by the forward, P. Richardson, and converted by C. Barron. Statistics showed the greater stamina, ami the National Provident defence collapsed in the last ten minutes of play, J. Hiekmott, Teague. .1. Parsons, and A. Taylor all scoring in rapid sequence. The game had been remarkable for the inaccuracy of the kicking, but A. Butterworth converted the last try. bringing the score to 26-5 just before the final whistle.
