'Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. to-day A deen depression still lies to the east of the North Island, but its after-effects have been modified by a series of secondary depressions advancing across the south Tasman Sea, one of which is now moving on to southern New Zealand. Au anti-cyclone covers Australia and the north Tasman Sea. Strong but decreasing south-westerly winds north of New Plymouth and Napier, elsewhere north-westerly to westerly, backing shortly again in places to southwesterly moderate but increasing, especially about Cook and I'oveaux straits. Seas rough betweeii Castlepoint and East Cape, but decreasing; rough also north of Cape Egmont and about Fovcaux Strait; elsewhere tn New Zealand waters moderate but rising south of Cape Egmont. Moderate to strong west to south-west winds, with rather rough to rough seas, in Weather to®at firsHn’tlm eastern districts of the South Island, and improving on the cast coast of the North Island; otherwise weather changeable, with scattered showers, especially in western areas; some hail probable in the far south and south-west. The barometer was rising all day and registered -9.80 in. Christchurch. — Fine and sunny after a frost of 6.sdeg. A light north-east breeze blew in the morning, and a fresh east-north-east in the afternoon. The barometer fell and last evening stood at 29.6uin. , Dnnedin.—Calm, with bright sunshine in the morning following a severe frost overnight in many parts of the city. The barometer fell sharply in the afternoon to 29.60 in.
