MOASCAR CUP
Regained by Te Ante College Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, June 17. Te Ante College succeeded in regaining possession of the Moascar Cup from Palmerston North High School after, a splendid exhibition of collegiate Rugby this afternoon, the score being 14-0. Te Ante fielded its best team since it lost (lie cut) to High School in 1932, the forwards being excellent in all phases of play, while the backs were clever on attack and defence. High School made some good play, but was unable to cross the goal-line against such redoubtable tacklers. The local backs were unable to get going very often, but the Te Ante backs had better combination and were going just as well at the end of the game as they were at the start of the match. All through the match was fast, clean and open, ami Te Aute fully deserved to win by such a comfortable margin.
Te Ante lost no time in assuming the attack again in tile second half, and from a line-out Huata ran round in front, obtained the ball and forced , his way over well out. Hauta’s kick failed. Te Aute 9. High School 0. Kaanga, Te Aute half-back, further brightened play by making a smart solo run in which he eluded several High School backs until Beard brought him down with a good tackle. Two determined High School passing bouts were full of promise, but dropped passes in both cases enabled the defence to hold. School’s forwards Were next associated in a loose dribbling rush that took play to Te Ante’s quarter, but the Maori boys were not long in taking play back to High School’s territory.
A brilliant move in which Kainamu, Pohatu, Raureti and Kaanga participated resulted in the last-named taking a pass with one hand and going over near the posts. Murray converted. Te Aute 14, High School 0. High School made a determined effort to score. Beard just failed to kick a field goal from 40 yards out, the ball falling under the cross-bar. Raureti sprinted along the sideline, passed the defenders, and was well in line for a good try when Edwards came up from behind to effect a good tackle. ‘Howell was injured and replaced by Moor. High School was given a good opportunity when Rota failed to field the ball, but Wilson filled the breach. The game ended soon after with High School on the defence.
