FORECAST FOR TO-DAY’S WEATHER.

Further rain in most districts; temperatures cold. Following is the weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. to-day: — A rather deep depression has been crossing the Dominion to-day, its centre this afternoon being located south of Gisborne. An intense anti-cyclone still covers Australia and the western Tasman Sea, but a secondary depression is passing Tasmania. Variable winds at first in the southern half of the South Island; otherwise southeasterly to south-westerly winds prevailing; moderate to strong generally and of gale force at places. • w- ,» Seas rough to high north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura ; elsewhere in New Zealand waters rather rough to rough. Strong southerly winds and rough seas in the eastern Tasman Sen. Weather unsettled and squally, with further rain in most districts; some heavy falls between the Cook Strait area anti East Cape, but otherwise mainly showery: temperatures cold, with snow on the ranges. YESTERDAY’S WEATHER. Wellington.—A cold, wet day, with rain falling almost continuously, and a ■ strong and squally south-south-easterly wind. Minimum temperature on Monday night, 46.8 deg.; maximum yesterday. 48.2 deg.; at 3 p.m., 4bdeg. Rainfall between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., 19 points. ~ . Palmerston North. — Almost continual rain, with several very heavy showers, comparatively mild temperature; moderate south-easterly wind. Masterton. — Almost continuous heavy rain; light southerly breeze. Wanganui.— Steady rain fell all day; light southerly breeze. Waipukurau.— Heavy rain fell throughout Monday night, totalling nearly an in.h. Rain continued steadily throughout yesterday, setting in heavily toward evenAuckland. —A wet. day with a moderate to fresh westerly wind ; the conditions were squally and heavy showers fell during the early morning and late in the afternoon. ' The barometer fell to 29.50 in., then remained steady. Christchurch— Fine but overcast, rain having fallen during the night. JLlie maximum temperature was 48deg. The barometer, after falling, was stead? fit 29 Dunedin. — There was bright sunshine in the morning, but the sky became overcast in the afternoon and toward evening a slight fog covered the lower parts of the eity.
