"In ’The Dominion' to-day it is stated that Mr. (J. G. Watson informed the Wellington Beautifying Society last night that poplars withstood the hurricane that swept tin? Manawatu district in February last," said a Palmerston North resident yesterday, slates a '‘Dominion" Special Service message. "This statement.’' he continued, "if taken on its face value is misleading, as poplars suffered as much damage as most other trees at: or near the west end of Palmerston North where I live. If you were to come to my residence 1 am sure you would have quite enough evidence to convince the lecturer that lie was wrong.” At this particular property it was found that about -10 poplars laid been completely broken off by the wind. This man said that from his own observations ordinary well-established bluegums appeared to stand tip to the hurricane the best of all trees.
