Motor Regulations
Sir, —With the majority of our citizens I was delighted to read of the provisions in the new Transport Act for preserving the lives of pedestrians on our roads. The fatalities occurring through the “hit-and-ruu’' motorist are steadily on the increase, and the time is over-ripe for a tighteningup of legislation in this direction. As a motorist of 20 years’ standing I view with horror the present -toll of the road.” I also deplore the statements ot many citizens who place all motorists in one category—that of owners (or drivers) of “juggernauts.” The Minister of Transport intends, I understand, to issue regulations, enforcing all vehicles to have an attachment preventing the driver from switching off his tail-light from inside the ear, and so preventing the car number from being - taken immediately after an accident has occurred. Every sane motorist will welcome such a regulation, ,and will be glad to co-operate in any such plans that will assist in making New Zealand’s roads “cle:.n.”-lam b ete, GnT Wellington, June 12.
