Sir Percy and Lady Sargood left Wellington on Saturday night for their home at Dunedin. Mr. L. Rothsdhild left Wellington last night for the north. Dr R. A. Shore, of the Health Department, travelled south on Saturday night from Wellington. Mr. J. Emanuel returned to Auckland by the Mariposa after an overseas trip which extended over 11 months. Mr. F. W. Doidge, accompanied by Mrs. Doidge, arrived at Wellington on Saturday from Auckland. Mr. R. Boulter, his Majesty’s Trade Commissioner, left Wellington for the north last, night. Mr. D. I. Macdonald, secretary of the Canterbury Employers’ Association, arrived from Christchurch yesterday. Dr. F. W. Hilgendorf, acting-princi-pal of Canterbury Agricultural College, left ■Wellington on Saturday nigbt for the south.
Mr. T. O. Bishop, secretary of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation, has returned to Wellington from Auckland.
Mr. M. Curran, stationmaster at Taumarunui for the past four years, lias been appointed to succeed Mr. W. Cooper as stationmaster at Tauranga.
Mr. F. G. .1. Temin, of the Railways Department, has beeßelected chairman of the executive committee of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Institute of Public Administration. Mr. Max Herold, German Consul in Vera Cruz, Mexico, arrived at Auckland by the Mariposa from San Francisco to spend a brief holiday in the Dominion
Mr. lan Donnelly, of the editorial staff of the Christchurch “Press," was a passenger from the south yesterday, and left for Auckland by last night’s express.
Mr. A. M. Burns, manager of the Christchurch Press Co., Ltd., passed through Wellington yesterday on his way to Hawera, whore he will spend a few days. Mr. B. McCarthy, of Hawera, who had been attending a meeting of the board of the New Zen hind Trotting Association at Christchurch, was a passenger by yesterday morning’s steamer express, and went on to Hawera by motor-ca r.
Mr. M. L. Reading, who was for some years editor of the “Lyttelton Tinies,” and who has been for the last 12 years editor of the Brisbane “Telegraph,” has announced his retirement from active journalism in the near future.
Mr. D. .McGill, of Christchurch, prominent as a tenor singer for many .rears, is now living in Wellington. Before his departure from Christchurch Mr. McGill was given a presentation by his associates, and an informal sendoff at the Commercial Travellers and ■Warehousemen’s Club.
Mr. P. Watts Rule, of Timaru, has been awarded honourable mention for his book-plate design for the Timaru Boys' High School Memorial Library, which was exhibited at the annual exhibition of the Bookplate Association International bold at. Los Angeles. Bookplates from all parts of the world were shown.
