“CEILING ZERO”

Air Mail Flying in U.S.A. Air mail flying in the United States forms the basis of "Ceiling Zero, the new Warner Bros.’ release which had a pro-view presentation lata evening aud will open its 'Wellington seasou at the De Luxe Theatre ou Friday next. Conceived and presented on a spectacular scale, the new production has as its theme the scientific struggle to make aviation independent of weather conditions. 'l'm pictures of the organisation behind a big airline organisation reveal the thoroughness with which the beacon-lit, beam-con-trolled air mail routes of the United States are operated, and as the picture points out, the day of the reckless, eri'iitie dare-devil pilot is over; he is being superseded by the scientifically trained and technically qualified pilot ol steadier mentality; hut it is the bravery and courage of the pioneers that have made the new day possible. The horrors of tlyiug blind —with ceiling zero aud visibility zero—are dramatically presented and the climax ot the film centres around the invention and testing of the de-icers now iu use, which break up ice that forms on the wing in flight. Splendid photography gives striking views of ice forming on the skin ot an airliner in flight, and of the operation of the preventive device. The interest ot “Ceiling- Zero” is not a purely technical one, however, for the production reveals something of the Human story behind the airline time-tables. The dialogue is excellent throughout and contains some capital repartee. The cast, too. is nrstCli Mpousored by the Wellington Model Aeroplane Club and the De Luxe Theatre, a model aeriplauc building competition is being held iu connection with the films opening in Wellington. Marks will be given for workmanship, covering and finish, originality and correctness of the principles of flying. The judges will be Mr. A. W. Pearce and “Aileron ot me Dominion.” Entries must be received at the theatre by 10 a.m. on Saturday next, the models being placed in the lounge, and an announcement of the iirize-win-ners being made from the stage in the afternoon.
