Lamb Prices Advance CHILLED BEEF FIRMER Lamb market: Firm with further advance in prices; consumption continues to improve. Mutton market ; Wethers and ewes, better trade at increased prices. Beet market: Frozen beef nominal; chilled beef firmer owing to smaller total supplies. New Zealand porker pigs: Firmer, but consumption is falling off. New Zealand baconer pigs: Market firmer owing to shorter supplies. The above report was received on Saturday by the Meat Board from its London office, which advises that the following are the approximate average prices realised for the week, based on actual transactions of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of meat mentioned, and are for representative parcels of the goods offering during the week, being for business done on the basis of delivered to Smithfield market, and/or ex London stores. Brices for the two previous weeks are also shown :— New Zealand Sheep.—Canterbury and North Island selected crossbred wethers and maiden ewes: 481 b. and under, fid. New Zealand Porker Pigs.—First quality: 601 b. to 801 b.. 5 5-Bd. (53d., 5 3-Bd.) ; 811 b. to 1001 b.. 53d. (5 3-Bd., 53d.) ; 101\b. to 1201 b., 53d. (same). New’ Zealand Prime Baconer Pigs.— 1211 b. to 1601 b., 5 7-Bd. (5 5-8(1., 5 5-8(1.). Market Steady to Finn Compared with last week’s quotations, lamb, with the exception of down, 361 b. to 421 b., is l-Bd. per lb, higher; wethers. 641 b. to 721 b., and ewes under 641 b., 1-Sd. per lb. higher; beef, l-Bd. per lb.’ higher. Others unchanged. The market is steady to firm. Levin and Co., Ltd., received the above cabled advice on Saturday from their London agents. The Bank of New Zealand, produce department, has received the following advice from its London office as at close of business last week: —There is a better inquiry for wethers. There is a little better demand for ewes. Lambs are in fair demand and it is thought that prices will remain steady nt present quotations. Smaller supplies of chilled beef have caused prices to harden.
