Mr. McDougall was born in Greenock. Scotland, in IS7I. and served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Rankin and Blackmore. After considerable sea experience he joined the Fedor'.ii Shire Line, serving with that'company as chief engineer for 10 years. He was then chief engineer in Blackball. Coal Company vessels for nine years passing over to the service of the Union Steam Ship Company in 1922, when tlie Black-hall vessels were taken over. Since joining the Union Company, Mr. McDougall has been chief engineer of the Kapbnga, Waikouaiti. Kaitok”. Mara'ma, Wnhine. Katoa. Makura. Waikawa. Maori. Tamahine. Kalrang'.t, Kaimiro, Wingatul and Waitaki.
