AMNESTY GRANTED

Political Prisoners In Austria MOVE TO WIN SUPPORT Improving Relations With Britain and France By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright (Received June 9, 10 p.m.) London, June 9. The “News-Chronicle’s” Vienna correspondent says that the Government has granted an amnesty to all political prisoners condemned to no more than five years’ imprisonment. This applies to both Socialists and Nazis, and accords with the Chancellor, Dr. Schusschnigg's, promise when he put out Prince Starhemberg to introduce a more moderate and conciliatory policy by which he is hoping to widen his basis of support by winning the goodwill of workers and the moderate jjro-German element. It is stated that the amnesty is also designed to help the Chancellor establish more cordial relations with France and Britain.
