FOR SAFETY IN FLYING

Reference to the safety of living over cloud- and jog-hound country, contained in the posthumous final report of the Tiansport Co-ordination Board, comes appropriately- on the heels of a club aeroplane wreck at Christchurch and delays in the trunk air services north and south on Sunday last —both due to fog. “Certain parts of New Zealand,” says the board’s report, “are subject to low-lying cloud and fog, and the danger arising from this source can be eliminated to a large extent by proper methods of signalling. And, earlier. “The safety of air services in New Zealand is not entirely assured without the provision of beam wireless or some form of wireless telephony or telegraphy between the aeroplanes and the ground.” There is here an implied recommendation which the Minister of Transport no doubt will be quick to seize.
