NO GAS FOR BELMONT

Insufficient Demand “This is a big pill and there is no gilt on it, either," said Air. R. Al. Russell at last evening’s meeting of the Petone and Lower Hutt Gas Board, when a return showing the prospective consumption of gas in the Belmont district was furnished by the secretary, Air. O. Silbery, The chairman, Air. 0. J. Ashton, said that .the return, should be given to the association and they should be advised that when they could get a sufficient number of people to use the gas to make it payable, the board would consider extending the main again. Air. D. AV. Campbell said he would extend the mains there. It was throwing a sprat, but they would get a mackerel eventually. Air. Silbery said that two of the prospective consumers were only week-end baches. He thought 900 cubic feet per consumer a good estimate. The'board decided to send the return to the association.
