DEATH AFTER FALL
Accident at New Railway Station
Admitted to hospital on Monday morning after falling from the third floor of the new railway station. Mr. W. G. Gardiner, chief clerk of works, died at 10.20 a.m. yesterday. When he was admitted to the hospital, Mr. Gardiner, who lived at 15 Cleveland Street, Brooklyn, was stated to be suffering from a fractured left leg and shock. Mr. Gardiner was a man of very wide experience in constructional works, and was chosen out of lIS applicsints for the position he occupied as chief clerk of works in charge of the new railway station. He occupied this position from the beginning, two years and a half ago. During his long experience as clerk of works, Mr. Gardiner .supervised the erection of the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance building in Auckland, several large bank buildings (including the Union Bank of Australia’s otlices in Wellington), the Weir Hostel for Victoria College students, and additions to the Wellington Technical College.
He was engaged for four weeks as inspector for the Labour Department on housing schemes.
