BUILDING ACTIVITY

Five Months’ Figures In Wellington SIX-FIGURE INCREASE The completion on Saturday of the first five-monthly period of 1936 has been rather remarkable for the building activity shown in Wellington city and suburbs. Most of it has involved big works in mid-city, but in one instance a syndicate is engaged on the construction of twenty-five houses in South Karori, some of which have been completed and sold. Others are in process of erection. The following figures show the comparison in money spent on new buildings and alterations during the five months ended on Saturday last (May 30) and the corresponding period of last year:—

Five Months, Five Months, 1935. 1936. ' £ £ January 46.285 . . 64,799 February .... 51.411 . . 30.237 March 33.499 . . 108.609 April .. 38.114 . . 128.673 May .... 52.634 . . 47,625 £221,923 £381.943
