Sir Janies Grose, general manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd., was a passenger from Wellington last’night for the South Island. Mr. H. A. Le Pine travelled south last night from Wellington. Mr F. 11. Stevenson, of the Bank of New South Wales, Eketahuna, has returned from a holiday at the Glaciers.
Mr. H. E. Taylor, of the British General Electric Co., left Wellington last night for the South Island. Mr. A. E. Hefford, chief Inspector of fisheries, was a passenger for the south last night from Wellington. The Rev. T. Fielden Taylor, Wellington City Missioner, has returned to Wellington from the South Island, Lient.-Colonel Donald Macaulay, of the Salvation Army, who has seen 40 years’ service, is about to retire. His position as men’s social secretary is to be taken by Brigadier George Dry, who has been in charge of the Addington Men’s Home for the last seven years.
Mr. W. J. Johnson arrived at Wellington from Dunedin during the weekend to attend a meeting of the Dominion Friendly Societies’ Council. Mr. Gerald Rosenbaum, managing director of the Dominion Life Assurance Office, has returned to Wellington from the south. Mr. C. M. Turrell, genera! manager of the New Zealand Shipping Company, left Wellington for the south last night.
Dr. G. F. V. Anson and Mr. E. C. Widen. of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society, left Wellington last night for Christchurch.
Mr. J. I. G. Somerville arrived at Wellington from Dunedin during the week-end to attend a meeting of the Independent Order of Oddfellows. Mr. George Rox is manager for the Long Tack Sam Company at the Grand Opera House. Mr. Rox was manager of the Humphrey Bishop Company which toured New Zealand ten years ago.
Mr. L. C. M. Saunders, M.A., Mus. Bae., of the teaching staff of the Cathedral Grammar School, Christchurch, has received notice of his appointment to the staff of King’s College, Auckland, as director of music. Mr. Saunders, who has been on the staff of the Grammar School, for the last few years, and who was a pupil there, will leave to take up his new position in September.
Mr. E. R. G. Steere, of the Bank of New Zealand staff, has been transferred from the Wanganui to the Lower Hutt branch of the bank. He is well known In Rugby football circles, having represented Hawke's Bay fo r several years. He played for New Zealand continuously from 1928 until 1932. He is also a noted athlete, who has won many championships at field events at amateur athletic meetings in recent years.
The Rev. R. H. Traeger, who for the last five years and a half has been pastor of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Montreal Street, Christchurch, will leave on June 10 to become superintendent of the Koonibba mission station in South Australia. The mission station, which was founded in 1901, was originally 12,000 acres of virgin scrub land on the coast of South Australia, and it was leased to the church by the Government. To-day, on a co-operative basis, it is a highly productive farming area. Mr. Traeger will preach his last sermon in Christchurch next Sunday, and his place may be taken by the Rev. C. A. Venz, of Nelson, president of the church in New Zealand, who has been asked to go to Christchurch.
Mr. R. Trencbard Smith, of the Auckland executive staff of J. Inglis, Wright, Ltd., advertising agents, has been elected a fellow of the Advertising Association of Australia. This diploma is the highest degree obtainable in the advertising profession in the Southern Hemisphere, and the Advertising Association, which was founded in 1918, has a standing very similar to that of the Institute of Secretaries. Examinations are held each year, and although previously the activities of the association have been confined mostly to Australia, there are six New Zealand candidates sitting this year for their licentiate or associate certificates. As far as is known, Mr. Trenchard Smith is the first in New Zealand to have rereived his F.O.A.
Mr. L. A. Quinn, of the Fuller Hayward Theatre Corporation, has returned to Wellington from Dunedin.
