BOXING TITLE
Featherweight Champion 6 Will Not Meet Rayner The featherweight champion of New Zealand. Billy Aitken, M’ellington. has again informed the New Zealand Boxing Council that he is not prepared to accept an offer of a title contest with Clarric Rayner. Blenheim. Tlie council will meet to-night when it will again go into Aitken's position as title-holder. Last week nt a meeting the council considered tlie question of the non-aecept-nnce by Aitken of a title contest against Rayner, which was offered to him by the Marlborough association. It was thought flint Aitken in coming to his decision not to accept tlie offer might have acted without mature deliberation, and in view of that the council decided to give him until Saturday to review die offer. Aitken has intimated, however, that his decision remained unaltered. For some time the M’ellington Boxing Association has been negotiating to secure a first-class professional from Australia, but the chairman, Mr. D. M. Kean, announced on- Saturday that the negotiations had temporarily fallen through because of failure to come to an agreement on suitable opponents and dates. The management committee will meet this week when it is hoped to complete arrangements for a professional contest, on June 22.
