“FANTASTIC CHALLENGE”
Mr. Polson’s Comment on Letter By Telegraph.—Press Association. Stratford, .May 29. “Surely you don’t expect me to reply to every notoriety hunter's fantastic aud ridiculous challenge?” said Hr. W. G. Polson, M.P.. this morning, referring to Mr. H. lan Simson’s letter to the editor in last Monday's ••Dominion.” [Mr. Sinison wrote replying to Mr. Polson's remark in a speech on fixed prices for primary produce that "if an election were held at the present time the Labour Government would go out on this question.” The letter suggested that Mr. Polson should resign his seat in Parliament and then contest it against Mr. Simson, who would stand as an independent, but, if elected, would vote for the present Government.]. memory of the famous explorer of old, through whose courage and daring New Zealand was first discovered. Others of the fleet of new rail-ears will also be named after cauoes famous in history of early New Zealand. A competition was held by the Railways Department for the names for the. seven cars to be used on the Wellington - Masterton - Palmerston North service, and the three for the Wellington-New Plymouth service. A total of 1050 entries was received, and a pathetic feature of the competition was that the competitor who submitted the winning entry. Mr. IT. 11. Porter, Petoue, died before the awards were made. Second place in the com- | petition was filled by Miss Phyllis R. Haylock, Christchurch, aud Mr. i Meek, Camara, was third.
