LIVE STOCK MARKET

Dairy Cattle in Demand

FEILDING SALE Dominion Special Service. Feilding, May 29. Dairy cattle were the most highly favoured section in the stock market at today's sale, when a large yarding was offered. Bidding for cows and heifers close to drop was very keen with a ready total clearance of all lines offered. One cow at drop, guaranteed sound, sold at £9 5/-, which is a record price since the depression. Other good cows went to £6 10/- and heifers to £6/15/-. The other departments of the sale did not show such favourable results for vendors. For a medium yarding of store cattle the prices received showed an easing in values, especially for run cattle. A heavy yarding of porter cows sold at late rates, while forward-condition cows of dairy breeds wore firm. There was a favourable market for young heifers in calf. The fat cattle market, except for specially heavy prime lines, was easy, with ox beef at: 30/- a 1001 b. for primest and cow beef at 22/6. The fat sheep market opened in an irregular manner, though several exporters were operating. Prices at the beginning were below last week's rates, but at the end of the sale had improved to the previous level. Store sheep sold generally in buyers’ favour. This applied _ particularly to ewes in lamb, with a fairly good inquiry for ewe hoggets. The market for black-face lambs was appreciably down, with some stickiness resulting.
