BIG FOREST FIRE IN NEW' JERSEY
Men and Boys Lose Lives
(Received May 27, 735 p.m.) New York, May 26.
One of the most disastrous forest fires in recent years swept southern New Jersey to-dry. At least five firefighters were killed, one is missing, and a score or more are injured. Of thousands of Civilian Conservation Corps’ boys pressed into service, three were caught in tlie flames and killed. Two other workers died of injuries. From 15,000 to 20,000 acres of scrub and pine were burnt, and four small towns within the area razed.
