JAPANESE MAY ACT
Smuggling in North China
London, May 21.
The Foreign Secretary, Mr. Anthony Eden, announced in the House of Commons that the British Ambassador at Tokio had brought to the notice of Japan smuggling in North China. The Tokio correspondent of “The Times” disclosed that Britain’s representations have had some effect. Foreign Office officials last week declared that smuggling did not concern Japan and now state that they arc seriously examining the question of considering the advisability of sending high officials from Tokio to investigate the situation on the spot.
