FORECAST FOR TO-DAY’S WEATHER.
North Island conditions still changeable; cold temperatures. Following is the weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for tbe 24 hours ending 3 p.m. to-day : — An intense anti-cyclone now extends across the Tasman Sea on to New Zealand, its central portion reaching across the southern districts. Pressure is low, however, and conditions are still disturbed from Lord Howe Island to beyond Norfolk Island. Light and variable winds south of Greymouth and Akaroa; elsewhere southerly to south-easterly, or, in tbe far north, easterly; moderate to strong generally and reaching gale force at places, especially in North Auckland. Seas rather rough to rough north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, and still rising north of East Cape; elsewhere in New Zealand waters slight to moderate. Easterly winds, moderate to strong generally, in the eastern Tasman Sea, with moderate to rather rough seas; but strong south-east winds to gales and lough to high seas in the far northern portion. Weather mainly fine in the South Island; still changeable in the North Island, with further rain on the east coast and over the northern half generally, some heavy falls being probable in the far north. Temperatures cold, with sharp inland frosts in the south. YESTERDAY’S WEATHER. Wellington.— For the most part fine, hut there were a few light showers and a cold, fresh southerly wind prevailed. Minimum temperature during Thursday night, 45.2 deg.; maximum yesterday, 50deg.; at 4 p.m., 47dcg. Rainfall at “The Dominion” building for 24 hours ended midnight, —Sin. Total for month, 2.71 in.; total for year, 23.92 in. Palmerston North. — Overcast-, with light rain; cold south-easterly wind. Masterton. — Heavily overcast and raining in morning; fine but cloudy in afternoon ; cold temperature. Wanganui.— Dull, heavily overcast, rain threatening; cold southerly breeze. VVaipukiirau.— Dull, cold day with slight drizzle at times. Auckland. — Fine and mild, with a I'ght southerly breeze, but conditions were dull and overcast. The barometer fell slightly at midday and then remained steady. Christchurch.— Fine lint chilly with a maximum temperature of 48.9 deg., and a minimum of 40,-ldeg. There was a light south-west breeze in the morning and a very light south-south-west breeze in the afternoon. ine barometer was rising slowly. Dunedin. — There was a very slight breeze from the north-east and though the sun shone throughout the day. the temperature did not rise above u3deg. 1 rcssure remained high, the barometer reading being oO.GOin.
