Letters From Fiji
Dear "Highland Laddie,” A wireless message was received the same night from the master of the Otranto b.v tlie mayor of Suva, telling that we won't forget your kind hospitality, which was rendered to us and tourists while our short visit to your beautiful isles. A return message wishing them the best of luck and happiness was sent to them.
Friday was our last day and we enjoyed our stay in Suva very happily. The next day. Saturday, we made our way back to Sigatoka by a taxi cab. We went overland roads this time. We left Suva at about 9 a.m. and reached here at about 9 p.m. This was. of course, a long run of 12 hours. We nearly discovered all the towns of Viti Levu. By overland we discovered Nausori, Xaduruloulou. Tailevu, Ellington. Tavua, Ba, Tautoka. Nadi and by the sen route we discovered Xavua only, excluding the small native villages. We discovered a distance of more than 320 miles right round Viti Levu. After reaching here we were still thinking of Suva. Fiji is a place where one and all can make their stay an enjoyable one. Though Fiji is one of the smallest groups she is rich, and one of the best productive lands. Fiji is noted for gold, sugar, copra and many other things. Tn a few years time everyone will have the < pportunity of touring right round Viti Leva by cverland roads. To-day you can travel nearly right round Viti Levu except from Sovi Bay to Xavua. Suva-Tautoka-Sigatoka roads have already been completed a long while ago and there is a regular bus service from Suva to Tautoka and Tautoka to Suva. The Sigatoka-Xarua-Suva roads are in construction, and they hope to finish them at the end of this year. Over 350 labourers have been employed in these roads. The Rcwa bridge—l2 miles from Suva —is in construction. This will be completed sometime in 1937. They have made a flying start o’right I —Your Pen-friend. 10AXI.
