Brighter Radio Programmes

Sir, — 1 would like io support "Cornstalk” and “.Moaning Jeff” stock, lock, and barrel. After years of torture of a protesting public in an ineffectual attempt to produce in it appreciation of dirges of a past generation the directors, of broadcasting in New Zealand have about reached tlie end of their tether. I feel that, under the present Government, (he people will be given what they want and wliat they pay for —not what a coterie decides, either from ignorauce of psychology or from pure stupidity, to bludgeon them into accepting. The present stations have proved themselves incapable of catering for listeners musically, but their lectures, debates, etc., > are quite good. This brings us to the point' of tlie necessity for a local B station, and 1 think we will have one before long. The programmes of this station should' be under the control of .someone who really understands ami appreciates modern popular music, and who will not have his style cramped when lie wants to put on a popular number. Jn this connection it is illuminating to note that the best music we get from 2YA in tlie morning session comes over in the “testing” period prior to 7 a.m. —I am. etc., WHINING AVILLIE. Wellington, May 22.
