WOMEN’S GOLF FINAL
Misses Barton and Newell to Meet London, May 20. Misses Barton and Newell will contest over 36 holes the final of the women’s open golf championship. This will be Miss Barton’s third successive appearance in the final, an unparalleled achievement for so youthful a player. Miss Nowell, who is 24 years old and the Derbyshire champion, is England’s youngest justice of the peace. The semi-finals resulted: Miss Newell defeated Miss Gourlay, 3 and 2: Miss Barton defeated Miss Garnham, 5 and 4. QUEENSLAND EVENT Vonnida Retains Title Brisbane, May 21. Vonnida successfully defended his open Queensland golf title at the Royal Queensland course with an aggregate of 297. He is tlie first player to win the championship in two successive years. His third round of 70 broke the course record. A. Watersou (New South Wales), with a score of 303, was second, and M Ryan (Victoria) and J. Spence (New South Wales), 306, equal for third place.
