The Mount Eden Borough Council at its last meeting decided to approach the Minister of Justice, Hon. 11. G. IL Mason, ami request that the name of Mount Eden prison be changed. The matter was brought up by Mr. E. R. Greenfield, who said that at the time of the recent strike of prisoners he noticed posters in the streets announcing “Trouble at Mount Eden,” but there was no mention on the posters of the prison. He thought the time opportune to approach the Minister with the object of having the name changed. “Have the jail removed out of the borough,” said Mr.- S. E. Chappell. Mr. IL Mills said he had brought the matter before the council some time ago, and he was entirely in agreement with Mr. Greenfield. Mr. K. S. Buttle remarked that the correct name for the institution was King Edward prison, but he thought so long as it was in the borough it would always be known as Mount Eden i>rison.
