St. John Ambulance Brigade There is evidence ol continued progress in the annual report on the activities of the St. John Ambulance Brigade for the year 1935, which has been issued by Colonel G. Barclay, chief commissioner for New Zealand. It is amply demonstrated that the services of the trained ambulance workers are gradually being extended throughout the territory, ihe membership of the brigade now stands at 4450, an increase of 241 on the preceding year and 23 new divisions (8 ambulance, 6 nursing, 5 cadet ambulance and 4 cadet nursing) have been registered during 1935. The number of services performed during the year xvas Gu.SoJ these included cases of first aid attended on and off public duty, removals of sick and injured persons, cases nursed privately by members of nursing divisions, hospital attendances, etc. The service medal of the order, which is awarded for 12 vears’ efficient service, was granted to 12 members, while the first bar, representin’’ live years’ additional service, went to 11” members. The second bar, for a total of 22 years’ service, was granted to four members. The service certificate for five years’ efficient service was earned by 2b officers and members of ambulance divisions, a nil by 36 oflicers and ambulance sisters of nursing divisions. The inter-district ambulance competitions for the South Island will take place at Dunedin on Labour Day next. The Dunedin members of the brigade are looltin<r forward to large entries and propose to lay themselves out to entertain the visiting teams in a fitting manner. His'Royal Highness the Grand Prior has approved of the issue of the Grand Prior's cadet badge to the following cadets:—Christchurch Y.M.C.A. Cadet Ambulance Division: Brian Ainger and Clarence Baldwin. Christchurch No. B Cadet Ambulance Division: latrick Shannahan. Appointments.
