Assets and Liabilities LAST WEEK'S MOVEMENTS The weekly e-tatement of assets and liabilities of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand ns nt the close of business on Monday, May IS, is as follows: —

Proportion of reserve (No. 7 less No. 5) to notes and other demand liabilities. 97.313 per cent., compared with 97.716 per cent, on May 11. The note issue shows n small decrease of £8514. Demand liabilities to the Stalo at £8.627.136 show a decrease of £287.677. Reserve balances hold by the trading banks total £8,383.648, an increase of £175,351. Other demand liabilities show a sharp rise of £156.859. bringing the amount up to £240.441. Other liabilities at £80.136 have increased by £1929. Sterling exchange shows a small decrease of £74.890. the total amount hold now being £23.840.255. Gold is unchanged at £2.501.733, and subsidiary coin at £200,802 shows a decrease of £2263. Investments have risen to £1.892,257. an increase of £75.594. Other assets total £222.463. an increase of £39,537.
