Note Circulation Higher OVERSEAS FUNDS INCREASE Deposits and Advances Increases in overseas funds, mid in demand mid lime liabilities, note circulation mid advances and discounts are tne main features of the monthly statement of the assets and liabilities of the six trading banks in New Zealand, as at the close of business on Monday. April 27. Furnished in accordmice with the provisions of tho Reserve Bank Act, 1933. the Statement, which was gazetted last night, shows lhe following aggregate figures in respect of the six banks: —

The total of the overseas funds held by lhe trading banks in respect of New Zealand business on April 27 was £22.255,225. an increase of £1.915.538. compared with the total on March 30. The banks* total London funds in respect of New Zealand business at April 27 stood nt £15.980.160. an increase of £1.836.791. Overseas funds in respect of New Zealand business bold elsewhere than in London amounted to £6.305.068. an incrance of £78.747. Tho totals of the trading banks’ overseas assets in respect of New Zealand business as shown in the monthly returns compare as follow:—

Note Circulation Higher. The total of the note circulation in the Dominion on April 27 was £7,150.681. an increase of £45,640 since March 30. The amount is £463.273 below the high level of ('l)risfmaw week. 'Trading hanks’ notes still outstanding nt April 27 amounted to £537.624, a decrease of £7630 since March 30. The position of the note circulation as ut April 27, compared with that al the dates of previous returns, was as shown in the following table: —

Increase in Deposits. Demand liabilities, or current account balances, of tlto trading banks in New Zealand as al April 27 totalled £32.049,252, an increase of £102.798 since Marcn 30. The upward movement in free deposits has continued since last. October, and the latest figure is the highest for two years. Time liabilities, or fixed deposits, on April 27 totalled £37.310,826, a rise of £780.866 since March 30. The total of demand and time liabilities in New Zealand on April 27 was £69.360.078, the highest since July 30, 1934. A comparison of the trading banks’ demand and time liabilities and the totals of the two is as follows: —

Demand liabilities elsewhere than in New Zealand in respect, of New Zealand business on April 27 amounted to £591,727. an increase of £65.033 since March 30. Time liabilities elsewhere than in New Zealand in respect of New Zealand business totalled £661.084. an increase of £75.450. The item: Now Zealand business, excess of assets over liabilities on April 27, was £16.123,677. nn increase of £785.367 since March 30. Balances held by the trading banks in the Reserve Bank on April 27 totalled £8.570.6119. a decrease of £366.949 sin-> March 30 Advances and Discounts. Aggregate advances .and discounts in New Zealand at April 30 are shown separately in the latest return. Advances wore £44.603.907. and discounts £486.961, a total of £-15.090.868. which shows nn increase of £172.016 since March 30. The latest figure represents a net decrease of £2.620,625 since last September. The excess of deposits over advances and discounts on April 27 was £24,269.210. the highest shown for two years. authorities at April 27 are shown at £22.854.690. The ratio of advances and discounts to deposits on April 27 was 65.009 per cent., compared with 65.597 per cent, on March 30, and 66.184 per cent, on February 24.
