AIR MAIL INCREASE
Slightly Larger Posting Recorded THREE WEEKS TO RUN An increase in inland air mail postings was recorded last: week, the second full week of the new trunk service time-table, compared with the previous week. The number of letters carried was 13,52.8 compared with 12.129 tlie week before.
The service Ims now been operating for nine weeks, in which over 140.1)00 letters have been llown. More than one-third of these, however, were dispatched in two weeks, in which the air mails had particular interest for philatelists—in Hie first week when thousands of letters were sent by collectors wishing to secure first-day covers, and in the seventh week, when many mote were posted by philatelists anxious to have air mail envelopes bearing the special stamp to commemorate the landing tit Auzac. In these two weeas over 52.000 letters were sent by air. Of Mie other seven weeks, the total postings have been between 12.000 and .14,000 letters in live, the two lowest totals being 11,770 and 10.030.
The air mail service was introduced as an experiment for three months. The Postmaster-General, the Hon. F. Jones, has more than once expressed disappointment, with the support given it. but there has been no official anjiounccment as to whether it will be continued beyond rhe original trial period. The weekly postings have been.
