OBITUARY
Mrs. Susan Talbot The death occurred at Timaru yesterday, says a Press Association message, after a lingering illness, of Airs. Susan Talbot, wife of Mr. C. J. Talbot, a member of the Main Highways Board and formerly M.P. for Temuka. Mr. A. B, West Mr. 'Andrew Burn AVest, manager of the National Bank at Gisborne, died suddenly yesterday, says a Press /Association telegram. He was formerly manager at Blenheim, and was appointed to Gisborne last November. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, and a son. Mr. F. W. Hastedt The death has occurred after a Short illness of Mr. F. AV. Hastedt, a wellknown officer of the General Post Office, AVellington At the time of his death, Mr. Hastedt occupied one Of the senior controlling positions in the accountants branch. Mr. Hastedt joined Ihe department about 29 years ago at Taihape, and was stationed at Napier before being transferred to the head office at AVellington. In bis younger days he was a prominent athlete in the King Country, and achieved a reputation as a sprinter. As a professional runner he was well known in various parts of the North Island. Mr. Hastedt served with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, having left with one of the early reinforcements. He saw much service in France, and was with the Army of Occupation in Germany. He was a competent and popular company-sergeant-major in the Divisional Signalling Company, and was mentioned in dispatches in 1916. One of his brothers was killed iu action during the war lie was a long-stand-ing member of the Masonic fraternity, being a member of Lodge Waterloo. AVellington. Mr. Hastedt was married last year, and leaves a widow.
