ANTARCTIC SOCIETY
First xMeeting’ of Session The first: meeting of this session of the New Zealand Antarctic Society took the form of an illustrated lecture by Ylr. R. G. Simmers, M.Se., on Sir Douglas Ylawson's 1929-1931 Antarctic expedition, on the scientific staff of which the lecturer was meteorologist. The lecturer confined himself to popular description and amusing anecdote, and the fairly large audience was well entertained. A special map gave continuity to the story, and a diverse collection of objects such as bottlers of pemmican and dog-skin mitts interested all present. From the remarks made there would appear to be a great deal of Antractica which will repay future exploration, and which is not impossible of access. Literally scores of mountain ranges remain to be surveyed. After questions had been answered. the lecturer was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
