Question of Access Settled CONFERENCE DECISION Access to the Wellington Teclinieal College from Buckle Street and the lay-out of the National Art Gallery aiid Dominion Museum grounds were agreed upon yesterday at a conference of representatives of the various interests concerned. The Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, presided, and associated with him were the Minister of Education and Minister in Charge of Police, Hon. P. Fraser, and the Minister of Internal Affairs. Hon. W. E. Parry. The board of trustees of the National Art Gallery and Dominion Museum was represented by Messrs. G. A. Troup, D. A. Ewen, T. R. Barrer and F. 11. Bass (secretary); the Wellington Technical College Board by Mr. T. Forsyth, in the absence of Mr. W. H. Bennett (chairman), owing to illness, and Mr. R. G. Ridling. principal; the Wellington Education Board by Messrs. J. Clark (deputy-chairman), L. J. McDonald, C. 11, Nicholls. A. C. Blake and E. S. Hylton (secretary) ; the Internal Affairs Department by Mr. J. W. Heenan (Under-Secretary); the Education Department by Messrs. N. T. Lambourne, Director of Education, and Mr. R. Savage, architect; the police by Mr. R. F. Madden, Deputy-Commis-sioner. and Mr. D. J. Cummings, superintendent. After addressing various aspects of the matter an agreement was reached. The section on which the Mount Cook police station and old residence stand will be handed over to the Board of Trustees of the Dominion Museum. The residence will be removed forthwith. The land at present vested in the Wellington Education Board in Buckle Street and known as the old Mount Cook Girls’ School will be placed at tiie disposal of the Police Department and a new police station will be erected on this site. A section of land t,o the south of the Tasman Street entrance to the Technical College belonging to the Board of Trustees will be vested for the use of the Technical College. zV roadway will be constructed on the western side from Buckle Street giving access to the front portion of the Technical College. There will be no alienation of land which will still form part of the area controlled by the Board of Trustees. The whole of the ground between the museum and the Technical College will be laid out under a beautification scheme and (here will be no dividing fence. The question of the access to the Teclinieal College from Buckle Street will he reviewed at the end of twelve months, but it is not anticipated that any difficulties will arise. The question of money for completing the ground improvements and tiie roadway was discussed and will be further considered.
