DEALINGS ON ’CHANGE

Yesterday’s Business RETURN ON INVESTMENTS Sales recorded on Dominion stork exchanges yesterday are shown in the following list. In the second column is given the return based on the last annual dividend from investment at the quoted price. In calculating the return on shares in companies which pay their dividends outside New Zealand the exchange rates have not been taken into consideration Tin' return on 4 per cent. Government loans includes redemption. In the case of 3j per cent, loans the return is for the interest alone, and covers only the period for which the loans are tax-free:—

London Stock Exchange By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, May 19. On the Stock Exchange to-day quotations of bank shares and other corporation debentures and stocks compare with previous quotations as follows:—

Hume Steel Preference Hume Steel. Limited, yesterday cabled to the Stock Exchange Association that a half-yearly dividend on the 74 per cent, cumulative preference shares will he paid on June 20. Dominion Wheat Yield Tip to Monday evening the New Zealand Wheat Committee hail handled approximately 4,5(10,(100 bushels of this season’s milling wheat, says the Christchurch “Press.” This total i s about 200.000 bushels less than the quantity put through by May IS. 1035. The heavy quantity last year at this period was due entirely to the dry season promoting an early harvest. The current season, in marked contrast, has been very much delayed, and the figures for the two periods boar no relationship to the final yields of the two years. The condition of the wheat coming out of stack is reported to he generally good, although a portion of it is damaged by sprouting. Last year the wheat committee bought just short of 5.000,000 bushels, which, along with 2,000,000 bushels carried over from the previous season, was sufficient to see the millers through till 1030. This season the committee commenced operations with empty bins, hut in local milling circles it is considered that sufficient wheat for nil requirements will he forthcoming from New Zealand growers. This situation has been brought about by the heavy yield of 39.02 bushels (interim return) nn acre, compared with last season’s final yield of 26.32 bushels, and the greater area sown in wheat.
