MAORI CHILDREN ON TOUR
— Concerts at Christchurch The Maori children from Tokaanu Native School who were in ■Wellington last week on an educational tour are at present thoroughly enjoying "heir visit to Christchurch. They have been paying their way by giving converts in the Native style, and are said to be giving Christchurch citizens as much education and entertainment as they arc themselves receiving. The concerts provided by the children were of a type rarely seen in Christchurch, including action songs, hakas. and pot dances. They had the assistance on Saturday of Miss Elaine Moodv’s Hawaiian orchestra. A party of Maoris from Tuahiwi welcomed the North Island Maori children, and Mr. E. T. Tirikatene, M.P., made a speech of appreciation. Further concerts are being given every afternoon until Thursday. Among the excursions for which the Tokaanu children have been taken was one to Rapaki on Saturday afternoon, greetings and entertainment being exchanged. On Monday afternoon they visited the pa at. Tuahiwi, where a ceremonial welcome was watched by a large throng. As well as Mr. Tirikatene, Mr. C. Morgan 'Williams, M.P., was present. The children will probably return to Wellington on Saturday morning.
